Interim Judgment

Accusations are hard to take, especially when there is a thread of truth obvious to all.  As a large community questions its leadership, indictments are formally filed for those in positions of trust.  It is unnerving to know, tangibly, of the realities of corruption playing its evil game in the corridors of the individuals tasked with leading the country.  It is as if the formal knowledge carries our fears, doubts, and uncertainties out into the light of day.  We are not prepared!  We don’t know what might happen.  The fa?ade which held our faith is gone.  We are left with an interim judgment.  What happens next?  Who do we trust?  Will the processes holding us together as a community work?
 
One key is the people in the community we trust to hold our “self” accountable.  We assume it will be a select group in office.  It is, or should be obvious that trust is not automatic.  I wonder if we realize the promise Divinity has given us.  God says there will be “honest judges and wise counselors among you just like it was back in the beginning.  Then you'll be renamed City-That-Treats-People-Right, the True-Blue City.” (Isaiah 1.26)  I wonder if we realize “who” these people are.
 
The answer is here, if we are willing to look.  This is the call God gives to each.  We are called to be honest and wise.  We are called to engage.  We have a mission to be known as the community which treats people right!  We should make and take decisions when some break the spirit of the call.  It isn’t that they are unredeemable.  The issue centers on the principles and values we hold most dear.  What do we stand for?  Where do our aspirations lie?  Are we striving for something of value?
 
Today is a day of reflection and courage.  If we muster the courage to reflect we capture the light Divinity offers.  If we measure our steps we can grasp the arms of hope.  If we take a stand we will discover the heart we seek.
