Dreams can be scary events. The best can haunt one’s soul like the worst nightmare. The goal is so attractive. It is compelling, riveting, and heart consuming. At the same time the void between here and there, the difficulties in getting any sense of momentum, and the obstacles gnaw on one’s heart and mind. The best ones never go away. The imagination plays on your mind, painting images that inspire and lift on spirits. Yet the uncertainties and doubts drag you into places you do not want to go. The battle is on, the quest engaged.
I cannot imagine being in the shoes of the person who dreamed of the Chrysler Building. It is hard to consider what it would be like to be in charge of a city like New York or London. What if you were the best in your profession; fashion, art, music? What color, shape, and sounds would you find in your dreams?
As I sit on the edge of great dreams, I find myself wondering if I am up to the task. I’m not sure anyone is. My fear doesn’t last long. Even as I express them I find myself in the middle of an old conversation. “Do you feel like a lowly worm, Jacob? Don't be afraid. Feel like a fragile insect, Israel? I'll help you. I, God, want to reassure you. The God who buys you back, The Holy of Israel.” (Isaiah 41.14)
Initially I think I am unique. In many ways I am but not in this. God has and is reaching out to you and others, looking for help bring the fullness of everything they can be into focus. God is here is help shape and realize our confidence. God is here to comfort us, reminding us always of our values and priorities. God is here to offer us the opportunity to be part of Divinity’s team on earth. Our dreams can be part of God’s dreams. Divinity’s imagination can be part of ours. Everything is possible as one imagines with God. It is a worthy quest.
