“From now on every road you travel will take you to God. Follow the Covenant signs, read the chartered directions.” Psalm 25.10
This weekend God gave me directions from several different sources. Each one reinforced a consistent lesson I find difficult to learn and accept as reality. I know the “authors” of my experiences have never met, did not intent to be part of a conspiracy, and have little or no idea of the classroom I live in. Yet, God spoke through each of them.
My experience confirms David’s statement of a God promise in this prayer. I believe this promised plays out in every life if one takes the time to slow down, open the heart and mind, listen, and let God teach you.
This weekend God used an email, Sabbath church, Sunday church, washing a car, pub church, a telephone call, and my quiet time with God to reinforce a lesson that is key to my immediate walk with God.
On reflection, I can see how every path I take has God lessons waiting for me to receive. Often the busyness of activity catches me and I rush through a God conversation. Often I try very hard, looking to discover everything myself and miss the joy of sharing the walk with a fellow traveler. Often I am “too good” to serve, preferring to be served. Often I miss the experience of acting like God acts.
Acting like God acts.
Is there anything more important in life? Is there anything more instructive or insightful?
We have a unique gift, the ability to be God in other people’s life. We often interpret this in our actions as an opportunity to be all-powerful, to impose our will on others. Our God is a servant God. God is here to express love, grace, and unconditional acceptance. God is also a just God, consistent with all, showing special favor to none.
Is this the type of god people see through my life?
I believe this is our universal yet personal mission.
