“God makes his people strong. God gives his people peace.” Psalm 29.11
Psalm 29 begins with God getting a standing ovation and calls for an encore from the people of heaven. David, in this prayer of adoration, go on to describe the power and awesome majesty of God. Until one gets to verse 11 there is little to indicate what God does or will do to deserve this worship.
Pure adoration is something I still struggle to understand. By nature, I tend to be critical and sarcastic. By nature, I seem to find the weakness or failing first, which I then offset by looking for the good. David’s prayer is exactly the opposite.
Psalm 29 appeared, until now, a strange way to pray. I do not think it is strange anymore.
It has been almost three weeks since I shared bread, space, and face time with my family. I cannot remember anytime in my life I have been away so long. Short trips yes, but never this long; and it will be four full weeks before it is over.
Now, for the first time, I understand why David would pray this prayer. David’s prayer was a result of God’s touch. My understanding is the result of God’s touch.
Sitting with God, being nurtured daily by His Spirit, brings a concrete strength and peace that is new. I realize that the peace is not something really new in my life. I am sure it was there before; I just did not know it existed. Nobody told me this would be a result of having a relationship with God. David wrote about it, but nobody ever talked about it!
Others can use the sequence, I am sure of it!
See a glimpse of God. Pursue God with everything you have. Passionately give up everything in pursuit of God. Open you heart and mind to God’s hand and voice. Let God strengthen you from the inside out and give you peace.
Adversity hits, temptation strikes, problems comes; I have faith.
“Peace brother,” actually means something.
