“Quiet down before God, be prayerful before him. Don’t bother with those who climb the ladder, who elbow their way to the top.” Psalm 37.7
Last week, at the end of worship, there was an opportunity for those who wanted prayer to come forward. In this particular church, this is a regular event. The pastor shared an impression he felt that there were those who would face a job decision in the coming week who especially needed prayer. As I felt secure in my job I sat quietly and watched.
The week progressed and work carried all the normal wins and challenges. Thursday night, while waiting for the family’s flight to arrive I received the call. The company I spoke with several months ago and walk away from was back. The potential job of my life that came only one month into a new job was back, bigger and stronger than before.
A good and old friend was on the line. The company authorized me to fly out to sit and explain the opportunity if there is any interest from you. This is the opportunity of a lifetime, a CEO role! The potential in the job and company is unlimited. There is no chance that we would not get the right person for money. The words echoed on the line and landed numbly.
I am only six months into a job I felt God call me to. I gave my word to people who work for me. I committed, at least verbally, to a three-year assignment. Yes, the company may not honor their side and I would be powerless to do much about it. Yes, the job opportunities are not as great as described. However, my word and God’s word.
What do I do? How can I respond? Like many times before the answer to my pleas comes in David’s prayers.
Quiet my heart and mind before God and wait. Wait patiently and listen. Close my ears to those who are not of God. Have faith in God’s leading.
This is God’s solution in every problem.
