Every time I sense that life is overwhelming people around me, God comes through. As I watch God act not all outcomes are positive ones with everyone singing a blissful tune. Life is cruel at times, painful in many ways, and unfair on a good day. Some of the negative events are the direct outcome of people’s choices; others seem more like fate. The question is not what can we do to prevent these events; rather how do we react to the events when they happen.
David’s model is consistent and brings the best out of life. David lays the issues out on the table for everyone, including God, to deal with. David expresses his emotions in full bloom. David releases the problem to God and gets on with his real purpose, worship! Strike up the band; let’s get this party moving!
I saw a friend do this yesterday. Life continues to deal blow after blow. I know it is a big challenge to keep his head above water! I wonder when will he get a break?
Then two things happened. First I saw his awareness of God in his life grow. I am not sure that he realized the change but it is clearly there. He poured his soul out to God, saw the gifts of grace around him, took charge, and expressed joy and confidence in the future. What an awesome example for to sit up and take note of!
There is so much grace in each one of our lives. I often find the immediate issues of life overwhelming and, consequently, lose sight of these gifts. The impact of becoming blind to God is my growth in depending upon my self. The one-two punch of the chain of events is devastating to my life and those around me.
God will change me if I let him!
