“He [God] picks up the poor from out of the dirt, rescues the wretched who’ve been thrown out with the trash, seats them among the honored guests, a place of honor among the brightest and best.” Psalm 113.7,8
Everyone once in a while, as in most days, I find myself caught in a reality check. I take the time to clean, polish, and wax my soul, then sit back and feel good about myself. The confidence that comes from this effort begins to take over my life. It permeates my efforts, the results, and my reactions to people. Then there is a wake-up call, a reality check that brings me right back to where I belong.
Cherry’s car, a Ford Focus, gets to sit outside. There should be room in the garage but the classic car, bicycles, and stuff are there and there is no more room. I do not want to admit that the garage is a statement of priorities, but it is. By sitting outside, the Focus is slowly beginning to show signs of a weather beating. Sunday I tackled the problem. A good wash followed by Maquire’s polish brought the car back to its former glory. The rain that, naturally, quickly followed allowed the hard work to show up through amazing beads forming on the roof and hood. The car looked fantastic on the outside.
I know how to look good on the outside! I can explain the techniques and methods that apply to any corporate life. I find myself believing my own polish!
God is a great owner. Just when I am basking in my own reflection, he trues up the picture. I know he does not cause problems to come. God takes advantage of the natural results of my decisions. Unfortunately, I give God plenty to work with!
God wants to clean you and me up from the inside out. He will pick us up out of the dirt, rescue us from the trash and seat us with royalty! He does this because he truly loves us exactly as we are!
