This week we launched the beginning of a new business model. I honestly have no real idea what this means; yes, I see the pictures, hear the story, read the description, however, what it means in real life is completely unknown. It many ways, many people and individuals wrote the coming change up on the wall for all to read and anticipate. Traditional approaches to business growth and progress are not generating the right results. The markets are rewarding new approaches to businesses with rapidly growing stock prices. This in turn frees the managers to try even more innovations. Every existing rulebook appears to rest down deep in the dustbin in the corner of your office or mine.
I know this and yet I do not look at the underlying message. At work, I act before I listen, eager to win at whatever is in front of me. At home, I sense the conclusion before stepping back into a family member’s shoes. With God, I struggle with the world’s view, unwilling to let my own experience clear my palate of any other taste. When am I going to look to the real framework of life instead of the old rulebook?
The impact beginning with my view of my self and God is dramatic. “When Christ died he took that entire rule-dominated way of life down with him and left it in the tomb, leaving you free to ‘marry’ a resurrection life and bear ‘offspring’ of faith for God.” (Romans 7.4) This means that I stand out in the open, free of any past, with opportunities at ever corner to write my future. The range of choices, the expanse of freedom is a mystery we get to explore every day! I am no longer bound my tradition and assumptions, I am free to write my statement of beliefs and values on fresh sheets of canvas. There are no rules, only opportunities! Fresh colors looking for my expressions, people looking for my touch of hope, and mountains that I can share with others in climbing.
