The world is a confusing place. The obvious solutions rarely are, people you think are trust worthy often prove not to be, and there is never enough time! I find my life playing out like English weather – all four seasons can play out in a single day; plans come and go, deadlines are met and missed, and opportunities sit waiting for action. I am not sure where things are going.
Yesterday was full of highs, lows, tension, and unexpected grace. Presentations to senior managers came off without a hitch, preparations for the day became an example of teamwork in action, other seniors appeared unable to listen to explanations, and deadlines loom with potential freedom lost. The story could end there but it does not. Kids smile when there is no rationale explanation for joy, new friends share a night out bowling – rediscovering the bonds that link us all together, and Whitney makes her first salsa.
Whitney’s salsa is an interesting twist – bright, unusual, and surprising! Eating a 10-year-old’s special creation for breakfast is a bit out of the ordinary, however how could one refuse? She saved a special bowl just for me, making sure I was awake and ready to explore it with her first thing in the morning. I did not ask, I was not ready, and yet she had everything arranged in advance. Taking a step into the unknown was a struggle but well worth the adventure! What a great treat!
Life is similar. Highs, lows, stress points, and uncertainty fill every day. God comes along and offers us something we are often not sure we need or want. “Who in the world do you think you are to second-guess God? Do you for one moment suppose any of us knows enough to call God into question?” (Romans 9.20) So why not give it a shot and see what it is all about. I suggest not that one not hesitate; rather, jump in with both feet and completely submerse yourself in the experience and journey. Just like the salsa, God is a “wow”.
