There are many ways to feel and believe you are superior. Material things like the clothes one wears, the house or loft in which one lives, and cars. This list is endless. Position is another hook on which people hang their esteem and position. Company title or position in the hierarchy. For others, the family or club sets one apart. The variations are endless, however for most, it is anything that is external to the person that becomes the delineator.
Paul told the church in Rome that a friend who was there was special. “She deserves anything you can do for her.” (Romans 16.2)
God says the same thing about you and I. He resolutely and firmly took the initiative through action. He revealed himself over several centuries, repeatedly promising that He personally would restore the human race and bring them back into relationship with the Divine as their were created to be. When the plan unfolded, with part of God we know of as His son, we still perceived that the gift was solely for those of a chosen race and within that group for a special people.
Jesus, his disciples, and Paul repeatedly shattered that myth. After Jesus returned to the Father, another part of God came as a guide. The Spirit's influence and path helped them realize what Jesus and God had always intended. Followers lived lives in ways that demonstrated their beliefs. People of all walks, rank, position, economic and social standing stood equal in God's unconditional love, acceptance, and grace. God's action on our behalf defined everything past, present, and future. Who we are, what we are worth, and what we should do revolves around this point.
Yesterday's choice is a matter of record. The question is what will we do today. Our nature demands that we build our own castles and define our worth. Our self-esteem automatically puts people in their place. God offers to restore you and I to our design and position with Him.
We stand equal before God and we must make a decision. I choose God.
