There are many pictures of God. Most of the time we talk with each other as if the Christian's pictures for children are the definitive answer to what God looks like. If we were candid and open, the God types we imagine and live with would range from funny, kind, to impotent, to angry, insensitive, and vengeful. Out pictures are there, even if we are unwilling to really look at them! Events and our beliefs in how God could contrasts with what He appears to actually be doing, which is often nothing. Everything colors our individual pictures. Some of us see the love and mercy, others a mythical image that is powerless, and yet still others see multiple faces of ourselves.
I find myself, especially when I have experienced the miracle that can come in a battle of priorities, view of self, and love of the Divine, longing to share the God I know. The need is not one of “winning” the God game, or telling someone that their views are less than optimal, rather it is a inner longing to share and give others the amazing peace and hope that comes as I experience the Presence of God.
This God is incredible! The awesome experiences and company that come with Him are all around us, yet I often ignore the fundamentals. “When he [God] mapped and gave borders to wild Ocean, built the vast vault of Heaven, and installed the foundations that fed Ocean, when he drew a boundary for Sea, posted a sign that said, NO TRESPASSING, and then staked out Earth's foundations, I [Wisdom] was right there with him, making sure everything fit.” (Proverbs 8.29,30)
With the God I know, life fits, comes with hope, is filled with compassion, and acceptance is something that automatically happens with mercy and love. The Presence has been with God since the beginning, often going by the name of Wisdom. I do not know how to give you this experience. I do know that it starts with a conversation, because God loves you right where you are.
