I was deep in sleep, a great sleep as I now recall. The intense banging just outside our windows woke both of us with a start. I hesitated, thinking that it would quickly go away. The harsh sound of heavy wood on metal continued, and then the sound of glass shattering was added. Springing to the window, I could see one car with its’ lights flashing and a second being hit yet again by somebody in a baseball cap. The scene quickly changed as somebody yelled and the person ran for the entrance to the complex.
I found myself running for the front door, eager to discover who and what had been done. The details were pretty ugly. Two cars picked out of a line. Separated by two cars, they were both BMWs and owned by the same family. The rear and driver’s side windows on both cars were no more, shards and lumps of glass were lying scattered all about. The front, side, and rear panels on both cars were damaged as well. Later, police counted 37 blows in total (assuming 1 for each piece of glass).
After calling the police and the victim, we stood talking about the details and possible suspects. It was almost too coincidental that someone picked these specific two cars out of a row of possible. It was unusual to inflict the damage and now try to steal anything from the inside. The damage was loud and blatant. There was nothing subtle!
I can’t stand the type of person that would do this, no matter how they might justify their actions! When I think of the Divine it becomes even clearer; “God can’t stand deceivers, but oh how he relishes integrity.” (Proverbs 11.20) In contrast to my feeling about the individual, God hates what we do that is evil and can’t stand those who would go around trying to deceive others and God himself with the details of their life.
God answer is constant. He offers forgiveness, mercy, and redemption. Things each of us need far more than we realize!
