The conversation was awesome at times yet there was a theme that continues to puzzle me as I reflect on it.
I was among friends. We sat reflecting on world events and how recent changes continued to impact all of us. As we explored the various ways our hearts, souls, priorities, values, and outlook were different we explored a wide range of subjects. Friends, their roles and influences on our lives was one that you could easily tell was close to the hearts of each one their. A number of friendships had taken on greater importance while others were in a spotlight of uncertainty. The approach each of us was taking to daily living had changed, yet we wondered aloud if the change was permanent.
At different times, and almost in a cyclical fashion, we kept coming back to our individual quests to know the Divine. The conversation was open, candid, and seeking. The willingness to share and listen was amazing, yet I was struck by the level of opinions versus true experience and growth. The unspoken proverb lingered behind our conversation. “Prudent people don’t flaunt their knowledge; talkative fools broadcast their silliness.” (Proverbs 12.23)
The challenge is there for each. Are we sharing what we have experienced? Do we carefully evaluate the choices we make each day, looking to see a clearer picture of God and living this vision out? When we talk of God, are we broadcasting silliness of heart felt experience with the Divine? Is there an authenticity to our conversation?
I left the table encouraged. I was sitting among people who are searching for God. I know God will find them, especially as they begin to let go of their cherished views of what He or She must look like.
I walked away challenged. I am committed to experience God today, tomorrow, and in each day to come. I am resolute in my willingness to demand God’s action in my life so that my values and priorities are His values and priorities. The awesome news is that God is here, now, ready.
