Ignoring wisdom in any form is folly. I know this well yet always seemed to be determined to repeat past failures. I am not alone; all around me are friends falling into the same trap. It is as if we cannot help ourselves from our self! We are doomed to repeat yesterday's failures because we do not have the power within to overcome.
Don't worry! Nothing has happened today that will cause harm beyond my damaged ego. Coming back home to damp gray skies, walking out of the airport to drizzle and dodging puddles, after weeks away in sunny, warm climates always brings a wave of reflection. Much has happened in my absence. The girls are older, more grown up, and their own persons. My best friend has become even more so, the time away continues to sharpen my sense as to her wisdom, insights, and amazing humor in most situations. Yet, I fear that I have not listened as well as I could have.
With every decision you and I make, we face the chance of crashing and burning. We can start the day with good intentions, yet old habits come back to direct our priorities and values. The fact that any of us actually fail is not a problem. We have failed in the past, we are failing in some way currently, and the future does not look much brighter in this area. We stand naked and raw before him with full knowledge that we have only one thing of value to offer or exchange, our very souls. That is the bad news!
This realization comes wrapped with amazing good news. God knows all this and more, and his views of us have not, are not, and will not change! We are much loved by the Divine. We are all His kids, precious beyond imagination. Saying “yes” to him, lending a hand to one another on our shared journey is the answer to every fall.
“Arrogant know-it-alls stir up discord, but wise men and women listen to each other's counsel.” (Proverbs 13.10)
