I sit in an organization doing everything it knows and more to change. The desire was there before I joined the company; in fact, it is probably one of the reasons that they were looking for people like me. Statements by the Chairman, strategies posted on the intranet, and well publicized recruitments (not mine!) all spoke of their commitment. The approach, if you heard their words, was clear, the awareness universal, and the steps plain. Clearly, one should believe that the drivers for change were all in place.
Ironically, six months into our partnership, the reasons for the success of the group I work with remains a mystery to those around us. Most groups have barely moved from where they were in the spring. They are still doing things the same way, old values and priorities continue, and the major uncertainties remain unanswered. There is little or no momentum towards a new future and they do not understand.
The platitudes are beginning to flow; each reflecting another analyst’s conclusion of why we are moving where others seem to be losing group. I do not recognize most of what they talk about. I look and think, “Isn’t it obvious that conspirators lose out, while the thoughtful win love and trust?” (Proverbs 14.22)
Some like to think that the credit is all mine; nothing could be father from the truth! Others suggest that we have complete control of the people in our business, which again hides reality. Still others begin to openly wonder, and recently began to come, ask, and genuinely listen. The answers are simple, and yet that confuses the disciple even further.
I really want to change my life for the better. It is not that I am in a major cycle of self destruction, however I have glimpsed something that is far superior and this is what I seek above all else! I have seen and experienced what walking with God can be like and know that this is what I want, really truly want.
God gives us the answers. Are we listening or talking?
