Drive any stretch of road long enough and you are bound to come to a sign which says “Vista Ahead”. Rarely does one stop except for the quick glance over the valley or across the mountain tops for the scene just waiting to be observed. The scene is there regardless of our observation. It remains ever present through darkness, fog, storms, bright sunny days, and clear skies, just waiting to be seen, reflected on, and analyzed.
I see life with eyes that have, through experience, faith, and living trust, come to believe that God is in control. I clearly do not understand it all, in fact most of the time I cannot see my own steps! I do know that “God made everything with a place and purpose.” (Proverbs 16.4a) There are things in life that with time and more experience come into focus. It is as if I finally stopped and took a look at the complete scene in reflective silence. I got out of the body that usually travels at speeds far exceeding safe parameters, turned on the lights that are often off to the next step before completing the current one, and engaged the mind in the present instead of the future.
The sight is awesome, terrifying, and life changing all at the same time. I am touched, awed, and dumbstruck by God’s activity. His way of life is on trial; compassion versus individual mini-gods. I would defend myself tactically; God looks at life totally differently. God’s defense is simple; participate in a working model with participants who have the freedom of choice. Let the universe be judge and jury.
The one thing that seems odd as I look is the evil that brings so much pain. And then I see how it fits; “even the wicked are included – but for judgment.” (Proverbs 16.4b) Evil plays out in this world when people do not choose compassion and instead become a mini-god for their self.
Have you looked for God today? Did you see how much She has waiting for you with your “yes”?
