Where will I be five years from now? What will I be doing? Where will I be working? Will it be the same business or company? Is any question other than the first one relevant?
I believe that every individual is on a quest. One may not be able to describe the destination. One may not even know that they are on a journey. Things may appear to be extremely complex and confusing, however each of us are involved in a process of pursuing something which we cannot quite describe. Some say it is a thirst for the Divine, a quest to know our God. Others suggest that is the unquenchable need within to know where we belong, to find our role in the fabric of life. Still others say that we pursue what lies in our heart or soul; that it is so much a part of who we are that we merely respond to what we were born to be and do.
Perhaps each is partially true and yet incomplete. I find that everyone thirsts to know who he or she is. I find people sharing a common need to be loved and to love. It is easy to observe that many have no idea of who they are, why they do what they do, and that steps in life are random. What if each statement was a piece of the puzzle?
I thirst to know my creator God who defines my beginning and gives insights into my purpose. I carry within a need to experience love, both in giving and in receiving. I may not be sure of much but I do know that I can make a difference, if only to my self and to those I touch in this journey.
All this leads me to a quest. “Whoever goes hunting for what right and kind finds life itself – glorious life!” (Proverbs 21.21)
I met several on this quest during the past few days; very different from mine but each looking for life itself. God guides each according to our true desires.
