I am full of hope and excitement. I can see lights! The statement is more metaphorically true than real, however the view from my penthouse hotel window on Manhattan’s West Side is currently full of incredible, indescribable, and intriguing lights.
The road I travel is full of unknowns. There is so much change that harsh reality says much of my life is chaos. The nature of the responsibilities that rest with me is a driving force that is taking me to a destination yet unknown or anticipated. There have been large blocks of time over the past few years that I never want to relive. Darkness, anger, and despair were larger is this world than anything that I value. Yet today I am full of hope and excitement!
The different is actually far simpler than I anticipated. In the regular course of walking along the journey the Spirit has revealed my arrogance and blindness to the needs of others who has more often than not played the role of my enemy. Subtly, and in hindsight virtually without my knowledge the Spirit has revealed and guided me along a path that trimmed away part of cataract. As I have responded to this challenge others who have worked on my team have responded to other opportunities that were in the vicinity of their steps.
The results this week were stunning. People spoke their minds clearly, succinctly, and forcefully without any antagonism, anger, or frustration. Differences were clearly articulated. At one point my confusion and inability to understand a long-term friend and colleague was an extreme as two unrelated languages. I could see Darkness creeping under the door and it was scary! Yet with God and the Spirit’s help we pressed on. The destination emerged and came into view. Everyone knew, in that moment, we had the light.
People heard Wisdom’s call: “Speak up for the people who have no voice, for the rights of all the down-and-outers. Speak out for justice! Stand up for the poor and destitute!” (Proverbs 31.8, 9)
Today is an opportunity for more light.
