Everywhere I look there is a sense of urgency. The short-sightedness of business has moved from being recognized to a state of acceptance. The question of longevity in marriage is now considered something optional to pose if everything else is working out ok. The need for faster internet connections, constant communication, and unlimited expression are more the norm than the exception. The corporation, society, families, and even my self are looking for results now not later!
In this context the complexity of the problem is increasingly an irrelevant consideration. People can solve everything and anything! Teams can and should work together no matter how dysfunctional one member might be; otherwise it is a failure on the part of the leader or manager. Distances are irrelevant! So is the need to understand and know each other. Trust is something most do not even consider available.
At some point each of us mark a moment in time and look at things before and after. We measure our progress from that moment. We also attempt to actually make a turn in the road of our lives. At times we panic, thinking that the window of opportunity is rapidly closing. On other occasions we ignore the signals around us and vainly get to a destination that is far from our true home. We have heard and now turn a deaf ear to the warnings of those around us. Parents have cried wolf one to many times. Churches have preached that the world is ending for generations, yet it continues. Doom and gloom lingers in the shadows of our lives amplified by the pain that comes from disease, broken relationships, and choices made by others.
Time has been marked. While there is no need to panic, the harsh fact is that “time is just about up.” (Revelation 1.3) The question is how will we respond? Will we ignore Wisdom and blindly run or turn to Grace, Mercy, and Love – all limited description for the Divine. It is our call, our decision, our life. God is here, ready and waiting – are we?
