I am in the middle of a radical transformation process at work. The responsibilities that I carry center on the goal of realizing a totally new way of taking care of business. There are many that are resisting this change or at the very least are relatively unenthusiastic about going through the steps necessary to get to the new reality. Initially I took the attitude that people were resistant to change because they either failed to understand the goal or were simply comfortable with the ways things were and did not want to change. With time, analysis suggests that my initial assumptions were more complex than needed.
The challenge with change is simple. Do you value what is being proposed? If so, what is the value you place on the new destination or experience? How does this value compare with where you are at, the current experience, and the perceived price of getting to the new destination?
The conclusion is uncomfortably simple. If the cost of getting there plus the value of where you are at is lower than the value of the destination you will never begin the process! Most of the time one focuses on the cost of getting there. I find that this is the wrong starting point. Simply evaluate the value of the destination versus the current state of being!
I know with absolute certainty that my destination in work is valuable beyond measure! If we are able to get there we can change the world in our small corner of the industry and alter the future course of history!
God looks at us the same way. We are precious; priceless actually that he will not let us go. We can doubt, we can disbelieve, but God knows with certainty; so much so that he gives us this warning!
“If you pull the covers back over your head and sleep on, oblivious to God, I’ll return when you least expect it, break into your life like a thief in the night.” (Revelation 3.2)
You and I are children of God. Watch out!
