None of us is perfect. Nobody can claim to be innocent and pure. The only certainty is that we fail and fail regularly. No matter how hard we try, regardless of our discipline, the harsh reality is that we are fragile, weak, and prone to stumbling.
There are those that deny their weakness or anyone who works with and around them. It is as if the weaknesses do not and could not possibly exist. In this situation I can only hang my head in sorrow because there is little that anyone can do to help improve the situation. Blindness to the reality in which we live is not compassion in action, it was and is simply ignorance, arrogance, and stupidity! Understanding and responding to our failures is at the heart of the recreation process that regenerates the failing heart and soul.
Occasionally people see themselves and the people around them for what they are. The process can be frightening for everyone! As I struggle to deal with my reality I find myself reacting with excitement, hope, and a positive enthusiasm for the creative process to come when I become aware of truth, reality, hope seeking prayer. In our failure comes the opportunity for God to act. In our despair mercy and grace reigns! The foundation comes in turning towards God’s love, acceptance, and power.
Yet it never ends there. In our failure we can also see where we as well as others have taken stands for right, for what should be, and for things than can be in the future. In short words, positions have been struck based on the priorities and values we hold most dear! The rewards for these who help carry us are clear.
“You still have a few Christians in Sardis who haven’t ruined themselves wallowing in the muck of the world’s ways. They’ll walk with me on parade! They’ve proved their worth!” (Revelation 3.3)
We may not be part of the core today, yet God willing we can be tomorrow. Look out evil one, God is ready to rock and roll!
