Success comes because of the relationship of one person with at least one more. It takes more than one to dance and make music! Frequently when we look at the results, trying to analyze what brought the recognition and reward, we label the cause as “teamwork”. I would like to suggest that teamwork is simply one on one partnerships multiplied across several individuals!
As I dig into those who are successful the framework holds. Even individual sports have partnerships of support – coaching, family, and advisors. Every one seems to have special relationships that free the creative energy, power, and willingness to go beyond the norm! Business success – partnerships are at the heart. Military – they are there as well!
In partnerships there is an often overlooked fact. It is the details that matter and make or break the relationship! Even if you never talk about it your heart knows! Regardless of the formality surrounding a review the soul checks out, evaluates, and responds to what is happening. Details, minute of the relationship are what define its existence. Success springs from the small things of life.
In this context many relationships with God fail because we don’t see or believe that God is involved in the details of life. How can a partnership work if one side doesn’t worry about what is important to me? Isn’t this rather one sided? What if the Divine is only about principles or values? How can I rely on this in times of trouble? What would I want to share my happiness in this situation?
My God does not understand this view. In fact the words describing Divine’s relationship with others fits your and my situation perfectly!
“I see what you’ve done. Now see what I’ve done. I’ve opened a door before you that no one can slam shut. You don’t have much strength, I know that; you used what you had to keep my Word. You didn’t deny me when times were rough.” (Revelation 3.7, 8)
God is at the heart of success! The question is, do we want the relationship?
