What if we could see it all? What if we knew everything that was going on around us, forward, backwards, and totally in the present? If we understood the nuances, motives, and interactions, what would we do?
I don’t think we have a clue of what we would do! I know I don’t. There are so many questions that go unanswered each day. There is much I long to know but don’t even know where to start searching for the answer. People act without logic, reason, or explanation. Choices are made that hurt, degrade, and destroy. Actions suggest that the way forward is illogical and often in a direction away from verbalized goal. If I understood this and more what would I do! You may know but I sure don’t.
John the Revelator describes a bizarre scene. I am struck by their response. Four beings are all eyes, they see everything. Their response is a model of what our priorities can, should, and probably will be if we were in their place.
“And they chanted night and day, never taking a break: ‘Holy, holy, holy is God our master, Sovereign-Strong, THE WAS, THE IS, THE COMING.’” (Revelation 4.7-8)
When they saw all they worshipped night and day, never taking a break.
We are given an opportunity everyday to walk with the Spirit. The Spirit knows and can see far beyond our horizons. There is a logical analysis that concludes with the fact that the Spirit knows the end from the beginning and with pure motives and mission is here to guide you and me to our God given destinations. We are given an opportunity, in fact repeated opportunities to say yes. Without our yes nothing will happen.
So you and I sit blinded by the world and our own propensity for selfishness. Life is a struggle full of unending pain and yet full of beauty, grace, and opportunities. I wish I understood it all, I don’t. I wish that I could see everything, I can’t. God and the Spirit can, so in God I trust.
