The human soul looks for help, even as it tries to do everything by and for their self. We thirst for something that will support our journey. When our desperation overwhelms us, we cry out to God and everyone around us. If we understand what is at stake we cry out, looking for God to relieve the burden that we see crushing us under the weight and burden of self. As we struggle for the win, one wonders if now is the time that a helping hand, a life changing break, or a decent curve will make the difference.
Regardless of the words, my head knowledge, and yesterday’s evidence, I find myself acting as if my journey is an isolated event that goes on without the involvement of anyone else. The family knows but they have their burdens. Friends understand yet they are grabbling with the struggle as well. God, where is God? Does the Divine get involved in human events in a personal way? Are we actually part of the Supreme effort? Is that fact that some die along the way indicate that we are mere canon fodder for cosmic battles?
When I read Revelation I don’t see a God that is non-involved. God appears to be working side by side with the beings of the universe, including you and me! Even when momentous events are underway there is a sense of harmony and roles. “When the Lamb ripped off the second seal, I heard the second Animal cry, ‘Come out!’” (Revelation 6.3)
God has a key role, so does the cry. God is aware and engaged in your life and mine, as are we in each other’s. When I reflect I find far too much experiential evidence of God’s proactive hand. God and the Spirit show up in ways I could never anticipate, imagine, or dream of asking for. The only serious question left on the table is my own response! What will I do for the people around me as God’s hands, eyes, and ears? God doesn’t sit idle, so why should we?
