Some see life as a simple game. Others view it as a competition. We compete with each other on some scorecard a few win and others lose. The scorecard varies; the most toys, the most relationships, and the quest for the purest life to name just a few. Even for those who take life more seriously there is one problem. Why is it that we live in a live where there is so much beauty mixed with equal amounts of evil?
I don’t see life as a game. I fear for those who do. I see us on a journey; one that starts in the midst of beauty and evil and reaches a point where only beauty wrapped in love survives. I cannot relax my guard when confronted with other powers because they play a critical role. In other words I see a journey that is going on in the midst of a war. The war is simple; love versus self, good versus evil, God versus the Dragon.
Just after catching sight of God John sees something that caused him to stop. “And then another Sign alongside the first: a huge and fiery Dragon!” (Revelation 12.3)
The question today is this; what should you or I do when we are confronted with evil and metaphors that represent the same? There is no simple answer; yet the one word that transcends every bit of wisdom is this, caution. Be careful, very careful of where you trend when it comes to the gods in competition with Grace, Love, and Mercy. It is easy to assume that these gods are merely weak representations of an alternative view of life but they are much more than that!
We travel in the midst of a battle that can easily consume your life and mine. We have a Spirit that travels with us that can defeat the enemy. The offer of guidance, protection, and open arms of love are always there. Yet safety and relationship take two and the second part is you and I. We determine God’s role in our life.
