There are so many problems in life, so much pain, and so little hope, that it is easy to be discouraged. I find it odd when a person doesn’t seem to have a melancholy side to their personality. How can you not with everything that is going on in this thing we call life?
For those that want to argue that life shouldn’t be this way I quietly say “good versus evil”. When others argue that God should just “fix” it my thought is “freedom”. For the observation that life “fair” I say “just wait”! Wearing blinders and not seeing what is really going on is not the answer. It is only in the open that one finds hope and the chance for something new.
John writes in the middle of a very intense story, after chapters of amazing, awe inspiring, and sometimes horrifying scenes, something seemingly out of place. “I saw another Sign in Heaven, huge and breathtaking: seven Angels with seven disasters. These are the final disasters, the wrap-up of God’s wrath.” (Revelation 15.1)
When I read what he saw and experienced before that now seems to shrink when he looks on a scene that is “huge and breathtaking” my mind races to what we all thirst for. There is going to be accountability in this world! Justice does come! God is in charge even when it seems like heaven is on an extended holiday! Maybe, just maybe, I haven’t grasped all the details.
What is in store for you and me? John’s words give me hope. I see a world where God is beginning to accomplish what he has always wanted to be doing. God will hold Evil accountable for history of the pain, anguish, and deception that haunts our lives today. God will purge the world of every ugly thing that exists. God will, and this is the most important part, deal with the thirst that you I carry to be the recreated and whole person of our potential. Everything will come! Winning is assured. Our future is safe is God’s hands.
