I don’t know how often I want judgment to reign! Level the score, make the point, and exact the price. The frustration, annoyance, and anger is so real in the pit of my stomach and back of my mount that I would give anything for the harsh realities of broken promises, relationships failures, and the inability to deliver to boomerang on those involved. In moments of extreme self centeredness and arrogance I am easily willing to let judgment come on everyone, myself included!
The thirst within to exact a price is not new. Every person in history seems to acknowledge that he o she holds a piece of this, some being more honest than their peers are. Even John writing about the future captured the same sentiment.
“The third Angel poured his bowl on rivers and springs: The waters turned to blood. I heard the Angel of Waters say, “Righteous you are, and your judgments are righteous, THE IS, THE WAS, THE HOLY. They poured out the blood of saints and prophets so you’ve given them blood to drink—they’ve gotten what they deserve!”” (Revelation 16.4-6)
Three critical points come from these observations.
First, thirsting for revenge is very much part of the human psyche as you and I know it. The critical questions are not why we feel this way but what we do with the feeling.
Second, God has and continues to promise that Divinity will deal with the problem. So, do I trust God? Will I continue or am I going to step in?
Third, If God’s judgment will come on me as well as the *&^% around the corner, what should I being doing now?
It is in the last question that the heart of the human opportunity for beauty, love, and grace begins! Want to get even? Live love! Need to respond? Compassion! Justice required? God alone knows how. If we want to help God along the way take the time to know what God requires! Opportunities to respond abound; they work. Remember this; they are not what you initially expect.
