In turning a corner everything is measured relative to the apex. One talks about “speed”, “the entry point”, and “when to accelerate” with the “apex” taking center stage. There is no right or wrong with the apex, it just is a mathematical footnote in a potentially complex equation. The apex doesn’t “help”, but it is a reference point we all share.
British politics are confusing. It doesn’t seem to be about the message, everything seems to be opportunistic. It appears to be all about personalities, who is attractive and who isn’t to the voters at any given moment in time. You might be likely to think that the public and visible performance of the leader in the weekly debate with the opposition would be a factor, but even the drollest survive with little press comment except to the fact that they are dull debaters. During the past twelve months we have faced unemployment highs, labor union unrest, education that is in a shambles, a hospital system (socialized) not functioning as it should with ever growing waiting lists, and even the military doesn’t have the funds or outfits for personnel to do their job.
We are at the apex of the change corner. Yet nothing is moving.
The opportunity passing anyone is of note because of our lack of a shared reference point. Nobody is talking about the future in context of the present. Everyone is hung up in the past or the future without a starting point! I will grant that the most recent conversations have discussed the potential but when will they start at the top of the curve?
Ironically we make the same mistake with God. We wander away from Divinity, try to do things on our own, and often are not even aware of it. Joel’s message is the same as the Spirit’s call to you and me this morning. “It's not too late—God's personal Message!—‘Come back to me and really mean it! Come fasting and weeping, sorry for your sins!’” (Joel 2.12)
