Certain words are forever linked; action and motive, decision time and hindsight, success and languishing. It is in the point of intersection that lives are shaped. We set the stage for our future, the happiness that surrounds, and the outlook for our life in just a few critical moments of life. We have an opportunity to live in the moment, will we?
The setting was a normal one that could have easily passed into history without a second glance. It was a casual moment around the dinner table, people sharing food and a bit of conversation. To anyone, including those present, there was little that would or could distinguish the moments to come. Yet there was a difference. Somebody perceived something and the wheels began to churn. In far too many ways the discussion really didn’t matter. Three people were sharing a common sense of need or desire, probably both. A forth was listening in knowing that the three were expecting a solution to the problem that required Solomon’s wisdom. The answer for the one was simple. Follow the example Joel recorded. “At that, God went into action to get his land back. He took pity on his people.” (Joel 2.18)
History doesn’t matter. Alternative solutions are here, but the optimal one lies out in the open for anyone to seize. If the moment isn’t grasp then it will pass and the next one will take on a different shape, context, and character with the only certainty being that it will be harder to see, more difficult to grab, and ironically more illusive. Time is not always an advantage or help.
The solution is in place now. Nobody talks about that moment of decision. I am not sure anyone was actually aware when it occurred. The same doesn’t have to be said of you and me. We can choose to seize the day, secure our future, and get the most out of life. It will require compassion and a bigger view that just our self. Look around. See life and all who are in it. Decide!
