New opportunities are not always as easy as they appear at first glance. First, in order to grasp the new opportunity you have to let go of the old. Second, whatever you might think you know of the new it always comes with a bit of uncertainty. Third, taking new steps can require different approaches to almost anything, at the very least it will require a new way of thinking. Yet you should never forget the lessons of the past.
Several involved in an extended initiative are now taking on new opportunities. Some have moved to a new location and are exploring what the future might hold for them there. Others have returned to their original home and are looking to take on new challenges while making sure they do not repeat the lessons of the past. Still others are refocusing their energies in a different way while staying within the confines of the organization that shaped the past. In each case the uncertainties and complexities that would normally stress one’s soul are minor compared to the challenges they have left behind.
Why are any of these stories relevant to your new vistas? I am convinced, since I am living one of these tracks, that everyone has a daily opportunity to start fresh. Far too often we hide behind yesterday because we treasure the certainty of survival. As we miss more and more opportunities we become numb to the fact that new opportunities exist. It is as if the enemies have won, but they don’t need to. We have been given a blanket of security so that taking on new Spirit led opportunities does not come with any long term risk. Enemies will be dealt with.
The fact is that “I'm laying this out as clearly as I can, even though you once knew all this well enough and shouldn't need reminding. Here it is in brief: The Master [God] saved a people out of the land of Egypt. Later he destroyed those who defected.” (Jude 1.5)
Today is a fresh new vista. Carpe Diem!
