I have a pet peeve. Some consider my annoyance one of trivial semantics but I believe there is more to it than just merely interpretation of words.
When a man says to a women that he “loves” her it should not just be part of the action that is occurring between the two of them. For example; if his actions never say “I love you” and he then gives flowers along with the words, what are the words other than window dressing? I believe there is a link between our actions and isolated acts of doing. One can be and do but one cannot just do, if that makes any sense!
Imagine a sports figure with all talk but no game. To say that he or she wouldn’t get any respect is an understatement. They were never in the game! If it was a football pitch then everyone would move around, through and on while the non-entity was left standing by his lonesome in the middle of a lot of green grass.
Imagine a politician who words never matched up with his or her actions. That is probably too easy because politicians often more accurately reflect you and me! We talk about things but never do them. We explain our values and priorities but our hearts have a completely different sense of direction.
I often wondered if everyone fell into this pattern. John writes about one example where it is clear that Jesus did not. “After this conversation, Jesus went on with his disciples into the Judean countryside and relaxed with them there. He was also baptizing.” (John 3.22) Rest, recuperation, and recovery coupled with ministering to those around him all the while. Nothing was in conflict. Everything is in balance. Jesus’ life isn’t compartments, he just is.
Imagine a world were every decision, choice, whisper said to those around you that “they are loved”. Imagine a world were talking to God was, not something scheduled. Imagine a world were we were everything we said we would be. This world can be – starting now.
