Truth, real, unadulterated, motive free truth is powerful. Truth is, from my experience, the most powerful force known to man. If truth is in the love, mercy, and compassion form (one and the same) then I would like to suggest that it is the most powerful force possible in the universe. When someone experiences this force the choice from that moment on is clear. Everything centers on the choice and the decision that follows changes everything.
I am in an extended period of trying to capture hearts and minds. The process is both challenging and, at times, frustrating. To me the answers are clear. To others the choice is confusing. As I have sought consul on the process that observation of others is that I have not realized just how central power is to the questions I am bringing to the table. I have become convinced with the observation. The question is about power; does the “I” camp win over “community”.
Obviously it hasn’t quite been presented that way; otherwise my accusation would have polarized everyone involved. As we work everyone has tried to present his and her ideas with clarity and purpose. Naturally wrapped into the process is personal motives, intent, and purpose. I have been engaged in the process along with the rest of the team. What results is my motive and intent versus another; his idea or mine. One versus another.
Yet it need not be that way. What if choices were self versus community? It would take more work but it is possible! There is a path, I took a few steps yesterday, on which the ideas are presented without motives wrapped around and through, in which the truthfulness of the idea is the power of the proposal.
When Christ presented the truth and the choice to the twelve the response was direct even as they did not fully understand what was being said. “Peter replied, ‘Master, to whom would we go? You have the words of real life, eternal life.’” (John 6.68)
What to do? Ah, windows of opportunity and choice.
