Years ago a friend made a link that crossed every part of my life. He said there are three questions that every decision must answer. “Is it a good idea? Can it work? What will happen?” In the years since I have found these questions can help one face any decisions, any place, and any situation.
This week I have been asked about my views on various organizational challenges, relational situations, and conundrums. As I expressed my experiential views there is a theme that comes back to the three questions of life. “Where did you read this? Who is the author behind this idea? What is your source?” It’s hard for those used to relying on books and other forms of instruction to understand that there is a different source of wisdom and learning.
I have a difficult time explaining all the ways learning comes. Far too often it is a combination of reading, experience, conversations, and a big dose of the Spirit. I believe the Spirit is with you and me in every step of our lives. Far too often I find myself ignoring the sense of wisdom that Divinity gives us and plotting my own course. When I do relax and follow, learning, insights, and wisdom begin to flow. The credit goes fully and completely to Divinity; I know my limitations and sense my weaknesses.
In the Redwoods I find the voice of God exceptionally clear. It is as if every aspect of nature and the experience of being in the Presence sweeps away the confusion found in the city. I can see Spirit at work and find myself humbled by the experience. When “Jesus said, ‘I didn't make this up, what I teach comes from the One who sent me,’” (John 7.16) he was talking about the relationship God offers to you and me.
Today the fog is already receding back towards the coast from which it came. The Spirit is pushing her way into life just as the sun is warming the backs of those out for a walk. Everything is alive!
