Rescheduled

I should have known there was something wrong by the size of the crowd, or lack thereof. Granted I was leaving from the Chattanooga Airport but still the line for the check-in desk should have been longer than one. As my dad and I got my suitcase and bicycle to the counter the warning flags began to fly.
“Where are you going today?”
“Charlotte”.
“Washington? New York?”
“No. Charlotte and then onto London.”
“The last Charlotte flight left over an hour ago.”
“Not according to my schedule of three weeks.”
“Well our scheduled changed two weeks ago.”
Little did I know that I would spend the next hour and a half walking between three different airline counters trying to board various flights that would get me to London.
Ironically I don’t even know her name. The supervisor at US Airways was as cheery and happy as any person I have meet in a long time. The last snap came when everyone realized how different Delta’s policy is with bicycles than US Airways. The sum of the difference was an incremental ninety dollars which I was unwilling to pay. The conversation was a case study in conflict resolution. One party trying to help anyway they could (Delta). Coupons, multiple trips to the code book, and a willing spirit combined to push the process as far as possible. Another party, US Airways, was constrained by a different rule-book. Even though they had acknowledged their responsibility there was nothing that could be done. The third party sat in the middle of things unwilling to spend money on someone else’s mistake.
In the end a person I still don’t know, committed to making things work and remaining friends, got out her personal credit-card and paid the price. The question was posed; “are you sure you want to do this.”
“Yes.”
She turned to me and said. “Are you happy? Are we friends?”
In another time and place; “Will the Messiah, when he comes, provide better or more convincing evidence than this?” (John 7.31)
I wonder; would I know God now?
