Timing

Knowing when to let loose can be problematic.  One should know yelling out from the street corner is one way but probably not the best way, given the place, time, and audience, to let everyone have a chance to buy into what you are saying.  Yet determining when, where, and how one lets go of their inhibitions and just expresses “it”, is often so difficult that one goes through life without ever having said a word.  Is erring on the side of being an idiot better than remaining silent forever?  Can one know with confidence the moment has arrived?  How does the decision change if there are risks lurking in the corner of difference?

I believe each person is unique, only we often are not willing to admit and accept.  Being different isn’t a problem it is a fact.  Regardless of the quantity of the external differences it is our hearts and perspectives that truly stand apart.  The reasons are simple; experiences shaping our lives within very different emotional frameworks, relationships changing over time bringing a sense of nurture or longing absence, and choice.  The impact of everything that shapes our lives brings the details that drive our curiosity, excitement, and willingness to risk everything in relationships.

The question resting with us that must be answered, at some point, is simply this.  When will we express our hearts?  Is there a time when the real “me” will be out in public?  Will “I” take the risk to be seen understood, and potentially attacked?

I find the model of Jesus helpful.  For a long time he was quiet; simply listening, explaining where there was opportunity, and living.  Then, when the Spirit directed, everything spilled out in the open.  “On the final and climactic day of the Feast, Jesus took his stand.  He cried out, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.  Rivers of living water will brim and spill out of the depths of anyone who believes in me this way, just as the Scripture says.’”  (John 7.37)

Listen today for the Spirit’s timing.
