Hope

Knowing the future doesn’t always fill one with hope.  Even when we can see the light, rough trails, unknown obstacles, and potential conflicts draw against our confidence in our destinations.  Knowing that it will all end at some point rarely helps in the turmoil of the moment.  There are things that help.  Walking with someone at your side is one, but it isn’t the solution for the soul.  Taking time to reflect is another solution, yet it is often filled with dangerous consequences.  There has to be something more to sustain hope.
 
In my journey I find hope being triggered by small events.  It is the reflection on and of small things, identifying the source of the event, understanding the role Divinity played, and rejoicing in the gift of encouragement and support the infusion of the soul occurs.  If I want to find energy, real, sustainable, and transferable energy then I need to anchor my hope in true events.  Truth is, in this case, founded in events without negative motives or connotations, events that come from unexpected sources, and often for unmerited reasons.  True events, gifts from God through others to you and me, carry hope in quantities which defy our understanding, yet they are there as gifts.
 
God has reached out to us across the generations.  When we look at our parents one observed “Abraham—your ‘father’—with jubilant faith looked down the corridors of history and saw my day coming.  He saw it and cheered.”  (John 8.56)  Abraham could see the future and in that brief glimpse found hope. 
 
There is much to give us hope.  We have a God who cares; deeply, passionately, and unconditionally.  We have those around us who are engaged in our lives, wanting the best for us today and in the future.  We have opportunities to make a difference.  Everything is set for today, for the moment that is.  There is and will continue to be much pulling and distracting from the hope that surrounds us, yet it need not overwhelm.  We have a compassionate God, engaged and ready.
