There are hundreds of tests available on the web to give you insights. Are you a Yankee or from Dixie? Are you a child of the 80’s? Men, do you have a feminine side? Women, do you understand men? What type of car are you? The list goes on endlessly. Name the subject, pose the question, wonder aloud and there is a short, usually twenty question, quiz to give you the answer. Don’t laugh; the results are interesting if not fairly accurate!
I wonder if I fully understand where I am right now. I find myself echoing words of old.
“Right now I am storm-tossed. And what am I going to say? ‘Father, get me out of this’? No, this is why I came in the first place.” (John 12.27) I know there is a purpose. There is far too much experiential evidence for me to argue otherwise.
I am not unusual. Far too often people leave decisions on moving forward, taking the alternative path, and dealing with a problem until it is almost too late. Sadly there are many who never understand the present to identify themselves and where they are going. There must be a way to prevent the cycle of ignorance, blindness, and pride from shaping the future. While not having all the answers, I do suggest one considers the following.
Never believe you own hype. I know we think we are good. I sympathize with those internalizing positive feedback. However, never rests, accept, and define one’s self by the positive rhetoric. We are equally worthless and priceless.
Always wonder. Hold on to your sense of awe, curiosity, and learning. This is an important gateway to learning, understanding, and insight. Though this, others, especially Divinity, can reach, comfort, and teach.
Be willing to act. Change, making decisions, and moving own are difficult processes. Even those who have made decisions before find it difficult to do it again. Yet, without the willingness, everything remains as it was.
Do I see? Do I understand? Can I identify who and what I am?
