Intersection

It is awesome to sit in the sweet spot.  At times I envy the leaders of the current era of Formula 1 racing; once they get a lead everything centers on staying in the sweet spot.  The circuits, speeds, and passing opportunities all work in their way to support the driver’s efforts.  It isn’t easy.  Yet the focus on racing shapes the roles and way the games are played. 
 
Even more invigorating was and is the radical climb of one driver in the last two races.  In both instances silly rules forced him to start in the last half of the grid.  Spectators and commentators didn’t give him a chance.  Their messages didn’t find a home.  From the start through the finish, even when no chance existed, the charge continued!  The amount of change in his drive was mind numbing; try driving on the inside of the line.  Doesn’t work?  Explore the outside.  Is there an opportunity to pick up a few positions?  Then stretch out the time between refueling.  Anything is open for consideration.  Nothing should be considered sacred.  Everything is to be played for.
 
Each day in your life and mind is an intersection.  We can sit in the sweet spot of yesterday, confident that we made it, and hope for the best.  If we are aggressive we can look for marginal opportunities to build our lead.  Yet any decision must come with a caveat – we must take care to protect what we have.
 
What do we really have?  How much opportunity exists in the world around us?  People are hurting – unlimited opportunities for compassion.  People are thirsty – wide open windows to help them in their quests.  People struggle to find hope – we gave give them what we have!
 
Jesus left a model for people of all faiths; he, “having prayed this prayer, left with his disciples and crossed over the brook Kidron at a place where there was a garden.  He and his disciples entered it.” (John 18.1) 
 
Jesus took the risk for something better.  Today is our opportunity to do the same.
