The invitation came with no strings. “Come, be part of the celebration. It would mean so much…” I knew there were no strings even as I wondered how some might react to the implied guilt. The fact being there would mean something was and is a statement of fact. As someone who had passed the milestone I understood. I could also see how others, including myself in a different age and time, could have heart the words. The difference, then and now, wasn’t the messenger or even the messenger. The variable rested within the person hearing the words and thoughts.
Far too often I put motives, meanings, and agendas to the words I hear. Yes, there are times that I am right! My intuition, analysis, and deductions have correctly interpreted the words and thoughts. In my fear, uncertainty, and person doubt I am at war. It is a war of ideas, control, and often manipulation. I act as if the words are an invitation to fight. I am often wrong.
We received, accepted and then traveled to the celebration. It was a great surprise, one filled with instant memories which will last a lifetime. As promised it meant so much, for everyone.
You and I have an invitation. The words are simple. “Come, family of Jacob, let's live in the light of God.” (Isaiah 2.5) There is no agenda, requirements, and guilt. The words are simply what they are; an invitation to be one with God.
It takes courage to put aside ones fears. It is never simple to simply come as you are. It can be difficult to let go of the prejudices which bind ones heart. In the end it is a choice everyone one must make or life will make it for you. Last night I came, laughed, smiled, and even met a few new friends. It was a fantastic experience! I wake today ready to listen and hear with my heart. In other words I am ready to live. The opportunity is here, for you and me to break free. Carpe diem!
