In the dark stillness of the night, long after the revelers have called it a day, one may find that one’s soul is anything but quiet, still, and at peace. It is as if there is a restless longing for something more or a sense of unease about what tomorrow will bring. I find myself in these moments looking at two things; the balance and order of different ideals and priorities promoted by the community, and wondering which ones I hold onto most dearly. It is as if the darkness is working on my soul – molding, shaping, and forming my approach to the next moment.
I often find myself wondering “who” will win the coming day. I have faith in Love’s ability to win eventually, but what about tomorrow? What then? Are we doomed to yet again be under the yoke of manipulation, exploitation, and greed? Is there any hope of breaking free, if only for a time? Will this darkness ever end?
This morning’s sun is a testimony to the coming dawn in each of our lives. Even as I struggle in the lighter blue darkness of the morning, I can tell the night has long past. Hope is coming. Opportunities are waiting to be played. The game is waiting for you and me to become part of the fray.
The contrast of dark, light and the conundrums we create is nothing new. Writers across time have struggled in the quiet stillness. One found the night and day merging into a unending period of darkness yet with Hope emerging. “The stars in the sky, the great parade of constellations, will be nothing but black holes. The sun will come up as a black disk, and the moon a blank nothing. I'll [God will] put a full stop to the evil on earth, terminate the dark acts of the wicked. I'll gag all braggarts and boasters—not a peep anymore from them—and trip strutting tyrants, leave them flat on their faces.” (Isaiah 13.10, 11)
Which leaves us the question of today; we hold the key.
