Looking through the lens of a camera provides a different perspective on life. The path without an end always has a conclusion with a lens. Even when things seem confusing, complex, or cloudy the view with a camera is merely busy, messy, or awe inspiring. I find the contrast revealing in a way I often do not want to acknowledge. Life is simpler than it seems. Choices are clearer than I would like them to be. Even destinations are far more predictable than I am willing to anticipate.
Intuitively we often know when we are on the “right” path. It is more than the silence echoing through our minds when our moral compass isn’t on alert. It is the confident peace which comes as one discovers one own true path, is steering towards “true” goals, and is taking time to correct for the failures and storms which naturally come along the way. It is almost impossible to find one’s right path if one is off course. The farther the course error the more difficult the correction will be. Corrections take insight and knowledge. Often they take time. They always require perspective.
The combination is difficult. We can think we are on the right track; we are confident and assured. Yet we find ourselves in a conundrum. Metaphorically, “Other kings get a decent burial, honored with eulogies and placed in a tomb. But you're dumped in a ditch unburied, like a stray dog or cat, covered with rotting bodies, murdered and indigent corpses. Your dead body desecrated, mutilated—no state funeral for you! You've left your land in ruins, left a legacy of massacre. The progeny of your evil life will never be named. Oblivion!” (Isaiah 14.18-20) Obviously we were not on the right path! We probably knew it but couldn’t muster the courage to acknowledge or do something.
Every path has an ending. Our path doesn’t have to be our end. We can correct. We can adjust our course. We can pursue the ideal. Everything is possible; we have the wind of the Spirit to guide.
