It’s easy to get caught in the excitement of New York, London, and any other big city. There is a lot going on! Great art, incredible music, and the vibrancy of the city are awesome. New York has a masculine sense to it which London is much more feminine. Whatever one might say about these two cities, or Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Amsterdam, Milan, Bangalore, Chennai…the list goes on and on…each is invigorating, awe inspiring, and challenging in their own right.
In the midst of everything it is easy to believe and accept the driving forces. Obviously they include power, status, and intellect/creativity. Representatives wearing these hats often include money, fashion, and the big stages. As I experience New York I am reminded how powerful these forces are. People bow, change, and shift before them. Others grovel, compromise, and give up everything including their souls to pursue their blessing. It is as if these are the power and forces which define our existence.
Ironically they don’t. Simple, often neglected ideas of compassion, mercy, and acceptance are far more powerful. One story of old sounds like a New York metaphor just waiting to be realized. “On that Day, Egyptians will be like hysterical schoolgirls, screaming at the first hint of action from God-of-the-Angel-Armies. Little Judah will strike terror in Egyptians! Say ‘Judah’ to an Egyptian and see panic. The word triggers fear of the God-of-the-Angel-Armies' plan against Egypt.” (Isaiah 19.16, 17)
It may seem radical to think the simple will overcome big city rulers. My witness and prediction is just that! We will overcome. We may lose for a time yet, but in the end compassion will always beat out justice, mercy win over punishment, and community (acceptance) over the individual. You and I have the opportunity to be part of Divinity’s army today. We will never hurt, only heal. We will never tear down, only build up. We will never bring the negative, we are bearers of Hope.
Today is an opportunity to begin a radical revolution. We will suffer yet the reward is here.
