Support

I watched an older man, confined to a wheel chair navigate his way up the street.  The sidewalk was sloped against him.  The cracks were snarly and unending.  The surface was worn, rough, and hostile.  I wasn’t sure the small wheels on his machine were going to make it but he was determined.  Nothing would prevent him from getting to where he needed to go.  Nothing except everything could and would.  I was worried until I realized the young nurse with an ID badge was strolling along side, full of life and hope, ready to help if needed.

It was a great picture.  His journey was one of endurance, perseverance, and hope.  Her role was pivotal.  He needed her far more than he realized.  She provided far more assurance, comfort, and strength than he was willing to admit.  I don’t think he could have stood, much less walked or crawled he was to his destination.  She was the reason for his success, even if he didn’t know it.

I may not always act like it, but I realize I cannot do it without Divinity in the center.  There is no option.  I am not strong enough.  I may have determination but without the ability to make it through the course life will consume me.  I think I have the vision yet, in reality, my sight is far shorter than I am willing to admit.  God is more than just something that walks along side; God is the power, vision, and motivation shaping my life, journey, and relationships.  I don’t always let God work, but what good is there is all Divinity’s.

The good news is that my support is also yours.  The promise is clear; “I'll [God] open up rivers for them on the barren hills, spout fountains in the valleys.  I'll turn the baked-clay badlands into a cool pond, the waterless waste into splashing creeks.  I'll plant the red cedar in that treeless wasteland, also acacia, myrtle, and olive.  I'll place the cypress in the desert, with plenty of oaks and pines.”  (Isaiah 41.18, 19)
