Metaphorical Monday mornings are wonderful times. Everything is in focus, nobody makes a mistake, and relationships flourish in the spirit of listening, learning, and sharing. You should see my projects on Monday morning! They are seamless wonders of creativity. Nothing is wasted. Even the skeptics find themselves drawn into new emotions experiences filled with wonder, awe, and hope.
Even in my dreams, metaphorical Mondays rarely come. I find myself living in a world where decisions and choices play out in a crazy, chaotic kind of way. Simple things turn into complex adventures. Something as simple as changing from the local train to an express brings uncertainty. With enough drama, I find myself gun shy. I do not switch trains unless the express is there. Unfortunately, it does not stop there.
Now, I find myself wondering what today will bring. The flood of decisions and choices I need to make is not receding. Everything seems overwhelming. I know there are those willing to call me to account from their Monday morning perspective. Do I take a chance? Am I willing to risk all? Is it better to wait, be cautious?
Hindsight is for learning and reflection, end of story. The idea that we might hesitate in the moment because of what we will see in the future is “pretty stupid, wouldn't you say? Don't they [we] have eyes in their heads? Are their [our] brains working at all?” (Isaiah 44.18) One would hope, but in the moment, the question is all too real.
I find myself holding a source of power in the moment that allows me to let go of my hindsight fear. As I allow the community at hand, family and friends, support and engage with my life, I can risk action. As I maintain my grasp with Hope’s hand, everything is possible. Hope and community change everything; hindsight is available now through the eyes of wisdom.
My uncertainties and yours will continue to stalk our lives. Today, I find myself filled with a commitment to step beyond my comfort boundary. Thanks God. Thanks friends.
