I love watching people walk. It may be intentional fiction, but people often tell others far more than they intend to by the way they carry themselves, walk, and look. It is incredible! Often the scene comes to the observant as pure story telling. You know the person is putting on a show. The latest fashion consultant appears to have scripted their clothes. Each aspect of their hair seems to be a carefully designed statement. Even the way they step comes across as if a choreographer is pulling strings.
Every once in awhile, someone or something calls the bluff. The best calls are situational. No individual or group has taken a stance. Rather, life has called them out. A person is in distress, who comes to their aid? A bully intimidates the weak, who stands up for those unable to defend themselves? Anyone exploits a weakness in the system; will those in the know do what is right?
In order to take action in the present one needs to have a context. Remembering without malice or anger is a good thing. Learning so that experience allows you to live more fully in the present is a good thing. Understanding the full picture can provide a stronger platform for fully engaging in the moment at hand, it is a good thing.
I often find myself holding onto a false god. I do not look back. I live and act. I do not remember. I blissfully assume. I do not look at what is at risk. I simply respond.
“Think about this. Wrap your minds around it. This is serious business, rebels. Take it to heart. Remember your history, your long and rich history. I am God, the only God you've had or ever will have—incomparable, irreplaceable.” (Isaiah 46.8, 9)
Today I can call the bluff, on myself. I can see myself for whom and what I am. I can turn towards the God of unconditional love, acceptance, and unlimited power. I can call God’s bluff. God has and will always deliver, for me and for you.
