Awareness

Awareness is an interesting animal.  Often the only people that recognize and enjoy its presence are those that do not need its company.  For the foolish and ignorant, awareness is a stranger that blissfully follows the trail we travel.  For the most part, it is silent, unseen and unknown.  For the most part, we are unaware that we are missing something critical to our health and safety.  We are happy, sad, safe, in danger, and blissfully ignorant because awareness is not something we actively cultivate.
 
I found myself purchasing a necklace for Whitney.  It had her name on it!  I like the colors, materials, and stone.  It will be perfect for her birthday that is coming up shortly.  As I purchased the item, I found myself in conversation with the owner of the store.
 
“You have made a great purchase.  I love the materials.”
“I know my daughter will love this.”
“You may not realize this, but the stone is an artificial version of the original.”
“Really?  I simply purchased it because of the how it all went together.”
“It looks fantastic!  It is even greater because of the strength, flexibility, and durability found in the materials.  Your daughter will love it for years to come.”
 
I still do not know all the benefits found in my purchase.  I do know that there is more to the story.  I am curious.  I am eager to see how things play out in Whitney’s life in the days, months, and years to come.  I am confident that my awareness mixes with ignorance.  I am sure it does not end with purchases and Whitney.  It goes right on through to God.  The prophet’s words are a guide for the day; “Yes, ponder Abraham, your father, and Sarah, who bore you.  Think of it!  One solitary man when I called him, but once I blessed him, he multiplied.”  (Isaiah 50.2) 
 
We do not need to travel blind or shut our minds.  We can walk with God.  The invitation is here.  Everything is out in the open.  Anything is possible today.
