I grew up wanting, at least once, a blank check. Just imagine what one could do with a blank check. The best clothes, the latest hi-fi, and a really special set of wheels would be within reach. I worked on my list. I knew I would be ready, no matter how unlikely, if the opportunity came my way. I never received a blank check. In fact I cannot recall even seeing a check beyond limits of my imagination. Life was always remained near the boundaries.
Fast forward to the present. The scenario continues to be replayed however this time I find myself in a reversal of roles. Instead of receiving a blank check, I am offering one to those in the new company. The check is a bit unusual because it is not a monetary one. I find myself in a position where I can offer my team anything they need to get the job done. If they ask, I will make it a reality. Looking for new computer equipment? Consider it done! Need some extra consultant resources? Approved! Are you dependant on the world of someone else? Let me know and I will sit down with them and work out a delivery schedule. Anything someone needs, I am willing to deliver.
So far, nobody has cash a big check. While a couple of small items have passed, the offer has essentially gone untapped. It is as if we are metaphorically circus elephants held tight by a chain that has no anchor. Even as my mind struggled with the puzzle I found myself in a reflection mirror. Were there any blank checks in my life that I had not cashed or even touched? Could I be as nearsighted as those in my puzzle? Before I was critical, was I clean?
Isaiah’s God inspired promise was the haunting clincher. “Hey there! All who are thirsty, come to the water! Are you penniless? Come anyway—buy and eat! Come, buy your drinks, buy wine and milk. Buy without money—everything's free!” (Isaiah 55.1)
Today I am cashing this check.
