As I rode towards home in the taxi, I received an education on Singapore’s licensing laws. It seems that you must reach the age of thirty before applying for a license to drive a cab. This is strictly enforced except for one exception. If you are the child of a cab driver you can apply at any time after getting your license! No restrictions of any kind apply to the son of a driver.
Candidly, I cannot imagine anyone waiting until they were thirty to do anything unless it simply took that much time to learn. I can see why a medical specialty takes a long period of time. There is so much information one must absorb and understand. The complexity of when to apply this knowledge simply adds to the credibility of credentials that come with age and experience. Yet age is not the primary factor or driver. It is possible to move much more quickly than one peers.
I wonder how I really see God in this light. Are we simply living life on a spinning wheel that has no end? Are we doomed to live in unending cycles of despair and destruction? Is there a way to break the cycle?
It is easy to blame God. After all, Divinity is by definition the most powerful force in the universe. Surely life is not merely a whimsical playground for those less honorable than God.
I find hope in a God that is not bound by age. I find hope in the fact that because I am a child of God, I am not bound by age or even experience! When God says “I'm not going to haul people into court endlessly, I'm not going to be angry forever. Otherwise, people would lose heart. These souls I created would tire out and give up.” (Isaiah 57.16) I find hope and a challenge.
Am I on God’s side or not? Will I stand up for God and act? Will I engage as God has and is engaged? The answer is found in what I do now.
