In working through an extended period of pressure and chaos, it is interesting to watch how different things are depending on how people perceive others. Depending on one's view, positive versus negative, optimistic versus doubtful, and confident versus wary, the dynamics of the relationships totally change. The way actions are seen is dramatically different. The frequency and depths of forgiveness and understanding take opposite extremes. The very viability of the team construct will pivot on how people see the others.
I am quite sure this is an echo of the difference in our response to God. Is God an accuser or one that comes with mercy? Is God demanding? Is God about freedom or rules? Is God here to serve or be served? Are we, you and I, in a relationship with God or are we merely objects of attention when it bemuses Divinity?
In our work team, we are moving into a sense of openness, trust, and dialogue. I do not think we are there yet, however we are making positive strides towards that destination. The change in tone, conversations, and outlook is tangible. Instead of conflict, subtle or direct, I can see constructive conversations. This does not mean everyone always agrees. We still have our freedom. In our freedom, we are choosing to be a part of making the process work. With our ability to choose, we are working in a way that is greater than the sum of the parts. As we deal with chaos, differing views, and challenges, we are discovering our strengths and dealing with our weaknesses.
I know my view of God is different than my childhood. I am in awe of God. I am not worried about living. I am focused on being recreated. I do not walk in fear, even as my failures bring incredible moments of sadness. I look forward to meeting an engaging God that passionately and resolutely loves us. I am resolutely holding on to Divinity's promise; “'I'll arrive in Zion as Redeemer, to those in Jacob who leave their sins.' God's Decree.” (Isaiah 59.20)
