Olympian and professional athletes have my admiration, but not for the traditional reasons. Candidly, I cannot imagine what it would like to have a coach in my face all the time. While I know there are moments of encouragement, his or her role is to tell me how to do things better. This means that I will be constantly reminded of my faults, weaknesses, and actions that could be stronger than they are. Even though I would know, that his or her intent is for my good, I know I would resist the truth.
Even as I long to know truth, listening to the blues in the morning is my testimony, I always find myself taking truth is small doses. There are mornings when I refuse to listen! I do not want to know reality. My body language is screaming, “Let me live in a world of my imagination, please”.
The truth of your journey and mine is that we have a coach that is always with us. I know her as Divinity's Spirit; you may know him or her by another name. There is an active conversation underway. Too often, I choose not to engage with openness or dialogue. My choice hurts others because of what it does to my soul. The Spirit is engaged with anyone willing to listen. Success does not motivate or inspire God to do more. God motivation comes from and with our willing hearts.
As the Spirit whispers in my life this morning, I find myself realizing that God always starts with the good news. God accepts you and me where we are, unconditionally. God's voice reminds us that we are priceless children of Divinity. God loves us passionately and without reservation, no matter how we react or what we do. God is always about the more! More love. More compassion. More mercy. More community. More hope.
In this context, it would be good to hear God voice; “I can see this is an old habit with you; you reek with money-lust.” (Acts 8.23) If I hear, anything is possible.
